Your Questions About Therapy and Wellness — Answered

We know starting therapy or occupational therapy can raise questions. Explore our FAQ to learn about our evidence-based approach, appointment process, insurance, and what to expect at Delano Counseling & Wellness.

  • What types of therapy and counseling services do you provide?

Delano Counseling & Wellness offers individual therapy, marriage and family counseling, play therapy for children, EMDR for trauma and PTSD, and occupational therapy for both children and adults. Our team utilizes evidence-based techniques tailored to your needs, ensuring a compassionate, personalized approach. Whether you’re seeking support for anxiety, depression, disordered eating, life transitions, or specific neurodiverse needs like ADHD or autism, our therapists and occupational therapist work collaboratively to help you lead your best life.

  • How do I schedule my first appointment, and what should I expect?

All sessions at Delano Counseling & Wellness are by appointment only. To get started, simply request an appointment through our online portal or call our Delano office. Once scheduled, you’ll receive a secure email link to complete intake forms via our SimplePractice portal before your first visit. Your initial session will focus on understanding your goals, concerns, and history so we can recommend the most effective therapy or occupational therapy plan. Our team is committed to making your first experience as welcoming and informative as possible.

  • Do you accept insurance, and what are your session rates?

We accept a variety of insurance plans for mental health and occupational therapy services; however, clients are responsible for verifying their mental health benefits, deductibles, and coverage details. Our standard session rate is $150 for a 55-minute appointment. Please contact us directly to confirm whether we are in-network with your specific insurance provider. We believe cost should never be a barrier to quality care—reach out to discuss your payment options or with any insurance-related questions.

  • What is the difference between therapy and occupational therapy?

Therapy (counseling) focuses on emotional, relational, and mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, or relationship struggles. Occupational therapy (OT), offered by our OTR/L, helps people of all ages build practical skills for daily living—especially for those with neurodiversity, sensory processing needs, or developmental challenges. Our OT uses a ‘detective’ approach to identify where daily demands outstrip current skills and creates a personalized plan for growth at home, school, or work.

  • Is telehealth available for therapy or occupational therapy sessions?

Yes, Delano Counseling & Wellness offers secure telehealth sessions through our SimplePractice portal. Telehealth is available for most therapy and many occupational therapy services, providing increased flexibility for clients throughout Delano, Wright County, and surrounding areas. Telehealth is a convenient option for those with busy schedules, transportation challenges, or rural accessibility needs. Our staff will help you determine if your needs can be met through virtual sessions.

  • What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule my appointment?

We require at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule any appointment. If you provide less than 24 hours’ notice or miss your session, you will be charged the full session rate. This policy allows us to offer timely care to all clients and maintain our high standards of service. Please notify us as soon as possible if you need to make changes to your scheduled appointment.

  • Can faith or spirituality be incorporated into my therapy?

Absolutely. We honor and respect each client’s beliefs and will incorporate faith-based perspectives into your therapy only if you request it. Our therapists are experienced in providing faith-integrated counseling for those who desire it, while always maintaining a supportive, nonjudgmental space for all clients, regardless of spiritual background.
